hardy kde 3.5.9 session management not working

Bug Description

Did a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04 / kubuntu 3.5.9

Session management is enabled.

When logging in to a new session, I expect all windows that were open during the previous session to open on the same virtual desktop as in the previous session.

Instead, all previously opened windows open on desktop 1.

It is not a problem with a configuration setting since it happens with ~/.kde from Ubuntu 7.10 / kde 3.5.9 (installed from backports) or with a clean ~/.kde directory.

What applications are you running that are not getting restored correctly?

I've found the same bug on two machines, both using kubuntu 8.04/kde 3.5.9.

New information:
On both machines, kde3 session management is broken (as described above) for users that have a ~/.kde4 directory. For users that have no ~.kde4 directory, kde3 session management works fine. Simply renaming ~/.kde4 doesn't solve the problem, but deleting ~/.kde4 does.

I doubt we can do anything about Hardy, unless someone finds the actual cause of the problem.

Changed in kdebase:
status: Incomplete → Fix Released

My experience has been that kde 3 session management was screwy if there is a ~/.kde4 directory.

Even though both versions can coexist on the same machine and a user can use both, there are some configuration glitches w/ 3 when 4 has been started by the user.
