Bug Description

Hi!

I'm running 8.04 on a new Toshiba Portege M500. It worked perfectly for a few days. Now, I get this error when resuming from suspend, and it takes too long to resume.
 [xxxx.xxxxx] drm_sysfs_suspend
 [x.xxxxxxxx] i8042 kbd 000:06: activation failed
 [x.xxxxxxxx] i8042 aux 00:007: activation failed
 [x.xxxxxxxx] i8042 tpm_inf_pnp 00:0a: activation failed

where [xxxxxxxxx] is some floating point number that changes every time.

What is causing this??

This has also been reported on a brand new Asus m51sn-X2 laptop.

Dupe of 59867. Looks like i8042.reset could be your answer...

Hi Erik,

Thank you very much for looking into this for us- We are newbies, and still don't understand how to actually implement this fix on my laptop??

$ sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
Find this line:
  # kopt=root=UUID***************** ro
Change to this (leave the # at the beginning!):
  # kopt=root=UUID***************** ro i8042.reset=1
$ sudo update-grub

Reboot. Magic (hopefully). Good luck.

I have the same problem: when resuming from sleep, PS/2 keyboard is frozen. The USB tablet pen works, though. Logging out and back in (i.e. restarting X) fixes this, as does reboot. Ubuntu 9.04, desktop with motherboard Asus M3A78-CM, Logitech wired keyboard. The i8042.reset trick didn't help.
