Bug Description

Using the left-click menu I select Connect to new wireless network. nm-applet
provides me with an interface to put in the essid and optionally associate
encryption for the device. When try to associate encryption with the device it
doesn't allow me to select wpa-psk as the encryption. It only allows for WEP
encryption standard. It should allow me to do this just like windows or mac osx.

WPA works with my card AND is properly configured for wpa_supplicant, at the
very least it should have a 'use wpa_supplicant' option which allows you to
associate a configuration file, and then starts/stops wpa_supplicant whenever
using that particular network.

I'd like to chime in on this- this would help Ubuntu promotion at my uni a lot.
Usually the initial installation is working smoothly (heck, even for non-techies
like my girlfriend). All students i introduced to Ubuntu came back with
questions about wireless configuration though. Having network-manager in Dapper
with WPA and vpnc support would be one of those 'see, my linux desktop just
works' things to show off.

As of early January, this is fixed upstream:

I have a WPA capable wireless card - Trendnet 108 MBit TEW-441PC with AR5212 802.11abg NIC and a madwifi driver.

With SUSE I have an option for WPA access.

But in network settings there is still only an option for WEP access.

NetworkManager as of 0.6.0 support wpa_supplicant fully:

Now with WPA being widely accepted, having a version of NetworkManager in Main and installed more or less by default (at least on the Live CD) that does not help setup a WPA wireless connection will only confuse users, IMO.
