Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.04
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-GB; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008050509 Firefox/3.0b5

The menu launcher has a firefox icon held in /usr/share/pixmaps/
The image file changed from firefox.png to firefox-3.0.png with the latest
update.
The reference in the menu launcher ought to be updated with during package
installation.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Upgrade firefox 2 --> 3b5 on ubuntu

Actual Results:
Icon missing for Firefox in launcher menu (displays default icon)

Expected Results:
Expect Firefox icon to appear in launcher menu.

Manually updating menu launcher to refer to firefox-3.0.png solves the problem.

Whta do you mean update to Firefox-3 is this an upgrade from gutsy to
hardy that you are seeing this? Hardy default browser is Firefox-3.0.
Does it fix itself after a restart or after running killall gnome-panel
Assuming you are using gnome.

Correct - the Gutsy->Hardy upgrade included the FF update.

This persisted after a restart.

I didn't try running killall gnome-panel (or xfce which is what I'm running) as it didn't occur to me. I can't tell you whether that would make a difference as I've already changed the launcher icon manually. My guess is that, if a restart didn't refresh the icon location, then a killall wouldn't either.

Perhaps this is specific to xfce?

Unless you are on xubuntu the menu, nor the auto created panel
launchers have the reference to the image, but the reference to the
.desktop file, which is still in place.

MOst likely you create a custom launcher and selected the firefox icon
manually for that. Thats however not a bug.

I don't remember creating a custom launcher - as I recall FF was the only launcher on the task bar from a fresh install of Xubuntu 6.

The file /usr/share/xfce4/helpers/firefox.desktop contains the obsolete reference to "Icon=firefox" on line 4. Two other launchers are ok.
