Bug Description
Binary package hint: nautilus
In Ubuntu 8.04 when I copy files from a CD to the desktop all my files are locked! The permissions of all folders are "Access files".
In 7.10 I don't have this problem.
ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
Date: Sun May 18 16:39:29 2008
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.04
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/nautilus
NonfreeKernelMo
Package: nautilus 1:2.22.2-0ubuntu6
PackageArchitec
ProcEnviron:
PATH=/
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: nautilus
Uname: Linux 2.6.24-16-generic i686
Steps to reproduce:
1. pop a CD with some contents into the drive
2. drag a folder onto the desktop to copy it
3. Look at Properties ->Permissions of the folders and files
Folders now have "Access files" (dr-xr-xr-x) permission, so I can not change the contents of them. Files are read-only (r-xr-xr-x).
Expected behaviour:
Remove read-only flag (chmod u+w) on all folder and files when copying from a read-only volume.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http:// www.chiark. greenend. org.uk/ ~sgtatham/ bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. wiki.ubuntu. com/DebuggingPr ocedures
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
