Bug Description

1) using Ubuntu 8.04 amd64 with all current updates and ati mobilty raedon 9700 with proprietary driver enabled and minimal config changes. (I installed yesterday)

2) apt-cache policy sauerbraten
sauerbraten:
  Installed: 0.0.20071227.dfsg-1
  Candidate: 0.0.20071227.dfsg-1
  Version table:
 *** 0.0.20071227.dfsg-1 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/multiverse Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3 & 4) Sauerbraten runs perfectly with desktop effects disabled, but fails to capture the mouse or run full-screen when desktop effects are enabled.

I'm not a programmer, and not even much of a linux power user, so I'm unable to provide you with much more off the bat, but if there is anything more I can help you with on this bug, please email me and I will be happy to run any desired tests and return you any output you request.

For the moment, I'm happy running with desktop effects disabled.

I've since further isolated the problems to "desktop effects" because it also creates issues for Chromium BSU, TuxRacer, and FreeCol. In Chromium, it causes massive flicker. In TuxRacer, it causes missing graphics and black screens. In FreeCol, it causes funny mouse & I/O errors.
I'm guessing at this point that it might be a problem with the ATI proprietary drivers in relation to my ATI mobility radeon 9700 chipset.

Again, everything is all good with desktop effects disabled.

The best thing to do is to turn of desktop effects when playing those games. The package "fusion-icon" can help in easily turning on/off desktop effects. Compiz is not the stablest thing...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 9.04? Thanks in advance.
