Bug Description

Binary package hint: hplip

Hi,

re: USB HP OfficeJet G85 In Hardy 8.04

Ever since I installed this printer, it doesn't print or scan. When I try to print, the job goes to the printer, then it is thrown into "queue" (never printed) and I get a popup message that says "printer error" but no definition of the error. When I try to use Xane, I get an error with a LONG bunch of numbers that I can't copy and paste. It won't let me.

I noticed the printer is installed as "default" only for some reason as well. I cleaned the printer inkjets and printed a test page just fine, but it doesn't print any docs. I do have HPLIP installed. It doesn't seem to have an option to make in the "main printer" only "default"

Have tried turning it off and on, unplugging it and plugging it back in. Nothing.

It acts like a spooling issue on the printer end, but no idea why Xane doesn't work at all either.

Xane worked beautifully in Gutsy but the printer did the same thing as it does now except the problem was intermittant. It works just fine on Windoze. Can you help?

Thanks cheryl

Ok, I did do what it said to "save the files" for debugging. I don't know how to access the debugging files now tho to send them to you. I did try to print something like the website said to do and the docs are in queue (not printing). I did enter this command in terminal after doing all this like it said and got nothing back either.

here's what the terminal said

cheryl@cheryl-desktop:~$ /var/log/cups/error_log
bash: /var/log/cups/error_log: Permission denied
cheryl@cheryl-desktop:~$

How do I access the debugging logs to attach them here Pascal?
Thanks cheryl

Some progress

1: Change the Device-URI from USB to HPLIP
2: Change the Model to "HP OfficeJet G85 CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.4 [en]"
5: Print a test page
6: Turn the printer off and back on

This made it print out one test page, and then nothing :/

Ok found a workaround to get this crap to work.

1: Add printer (the usb://HP/OfficeJet, not the hp:/usb/OfficeJet)

2: turn off the printer, turn on the printer

3: run sudo /etc/init.d/cups restart

After that it seams to always print, but we haven't attempted restarting the computer yet.
