Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I play games on neopets.com regularly. When I try to start most of the games, the window that surrounds the startup screen is too small. The start buttons at the bottom of the picture are not visible or clickable. It's not possible to play most of the games I tried. Specific games that couldn't be started are: Roodoku, Word Poker, and Goparokko.

I can see everything on the flash document fine. What plugin are you using for flash?

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried to update from the Adobe site but none of the downloads worked. Any suggestions on how to get the update?

Download the tar.gz file attached, and extract it to your desktop.

Open a terminal, and type 'cd Desktop'. Then type 'cd install_flash_player_9_linux'

You should be in the folder that you extracted the install files to.

Now, type "./flashplayer-installer", and follow the instructions.

Let me know if this does not work.

No joy. I'd tried that before with no luck. Taking a look at the Mozilla plugins directory there's a different flash library. It's called: flashplugin-alternative.so
The file you suggested is trying to install libflashplayer.so but not finding an existing one and not handling that too well. It thinks I'm giving it the wrong directory.

Replacing the current with the new seems to be the thing to do but I'm not sure how to do that so things will be setup correctly.

Thanks for the help!

Go to add/remove componets from the Ubuntu menu. Search for flash and make sure swfdec, gnash, and Adode Flash are uninstalled. You may want to manually remove the file you see as well once this is done.

Firefox should be closed while doing this. Now restart Firefox and go to a site like www.youtube.com. It should complain about missing plugins. Click on that message. If you are running the default version of FF that ships with Ubuntu it should give you an option to install Adobe Flash for Gnash. Install Adobe Flash. Restart FF and go to flash enabled site to verify it is working.

Gnash may not be compatible with neopets.com and I think you have it installed.

Nice customer service... so much in the spirit of Ubuntu.

Since it installed the flash itself and it was some weird version that didn't work, I contend it is a bug. Doesn't matter, I went back to Firefox 2 and things are working now.

You might consider working for Microsoft. Your attitude seems perfect.

The bug tracking system is not a primary support channel for
users. Its there to increase the quality of the distributions by
allowing developers to gather information from users that are willing
to help by reporting problems and providing information.

We have other support channels where users can get help for their
specific issues. The bug tracking system is not suitable for that.
