[hardy] firefox cannot print web pages

Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Firefox 3.0 beta 5 bundled with Hardy Heron 8.04 cannot print web pages. The print preview displays how it will be printed, number of pages etc. Clicking print causes the printer to indicate that the output is being sent to the printer by flashing a light on the printer. This flashing stops after a few seconds (on my HP Laserjet 4, please don't laugh. It has been working flawlessly for the last 14 years with only two minor repairs I did myself), and nothing happens. I can print from OpenOffice and other applications. What gives? Thanks.

Thank you, Martin. Yes, it is still a problem. I have to cut and paste into
OpenOffice Writer to print. The gedit text editor does not print either.
All OpenOffice profucts and GIMP print fine.

Thanks again.

I cannot print from anything other than OpenOffice. This is very annoying
to say the least. My windows machines, for all their other troubles, never
failed to print from any application once the correct printer driver was
loaded. Should I try OpenSuse 11.1. I have it on a test computer and kinda
like it. Thanks.

Have you tried this with the latest Firefox 3? (3.0.10 at present)

Yes, I just did. No change. The printer light blinks for a few seconds as
if it is receiiving data and then stops blinking. This is a show-stopper.
I am going to install SuSE 11 on another drive and see what it does. Thanks
for pursuing this issue. Hope a solution is found quickly. Thanks.

I haven't observed a problem with gedit, but our users probably don't print from it much. I'll check if that program has a similar problem.

Hi,

I'm attaching a snapshot of the Ubuntu homepage which does not print to .ps properly in my version of Firefox, which is 3.0.10+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 (amd64, from security.ubuntu.com). The .ps file being generated is also in the archive.

Again, there are webpages that print fine, for example Launchpad.

Since other users also had problems with printing from Gedit, I also tried that. Gedit prints fine on my system.

Greetings, Sebastian
