I have the same problem.
In the bottom status bar it will say connecting to... and hang there for a long time. I have checked and there is nothing going out through the network interface. FF error panel lists nothing out of the ordinary.
I have installed konqueror and run the two concurrently acessing the same web sites and whenever firefox hangs I can continue to telnet that server, and konqueror can access the same site without any problems.
The problem would persist sometimes until I reboot, FF will refuse to open any sites for extended periods.
One interesting thing I have noticed is that FF can access a local webserver on our lan while it cannot access the www. It is not related to our internet connection since as I noted above I can Konquer (hah) the web while FF is having problems.
I have checked and there are no error messages in the config files or the bug report tool.
If you can point me in any area's where I can glean info to submit to you I will do so gladly.
TIA
