Bug Description

When browsing in Firefox, sometimes when I click a hyperlink or scroll, the screen dims(goes black and white) and Firefox locks up for about half a minute. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron Desktop Edition on a Lenovo R61i laptop. Firefox version is 3.0b5. It is driving me mad and I'm thinking of trying another browser.

there are multiple reasons for lock ups. several should be fixed in
RC1 which should get rolled out to you sooon. you can pre-test the
packages by installing them from hardy-proposed now..

If RC1 doesnt fix your issue, try to disable your extensions in tools
-> addons menu and try to uninstall flash to see if this issue goes
away.

Well I think it's a JAVA problem. I 've noticed it again when browsing
photos in flickr.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Jaunty Jackalope. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

I hope this Problem is Solved in Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope.. its a real pain; i've been having this problem on and off all year long with Ubuntu 8.10 on a Desktop P.c and it very annoying an frustrating waiting for Firefox to come back after going dim.
I think its a Flash or Java Problem it tends to happen on heavy Java or Flash Animation Social Networking Websites
