thanks for the report, can you run evolution from the command line as: CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution >& evo.log and attach that log to the report? Also is this reproducible with another new user created on your system? thanks.

@Pedro,
Per your request, I ran evolution 2.22.1 on a brand new account on the same computer. Still the same problem. As soon as I attached an JPEG image, the message never get deliver with the same error.

On another hand, Evolution 2.12.1 deliver the same e-mail just fine. I have Gusty with Evolution 2.12.1 on the same network and it is sending mail with attachment OK.

is your connexion slow? do you have the issue on any jpg image or can you send a smaller one? could be a timeout because it's taking some time to do the sending

@Sebastien

1/ Any JPEG would have the problem, large or small. No JPEG attachment, no problem.
2/ My connection is DSL with 378Kbps upstream.
3/ As I said, it works fine with evolution 2.12.1 and Thunderbird, on the same network.

Hi,

I have the same issue (Evolution 2.22.1) when trying to send two large documents (appr 2MB each) in a mail. Only, when Evolution fails it seems that my wireless network connection fails, I lose connection to the wireless AP.

Hi,

I confirm too with Caspar, Tien & Olaji.

Here is my scenario.

1. Environment
- Hardy 2.6.24-20
- Evolution 2.22.3.1
- SMTP 587

2. Problem
- Unable able to send attachment in zip format create by archive manager which is only 2MB in size.

FYI.
The above are Intermittent didn't work since yesterday 23 July 2008 with kernel 2.6.24-19. So this not related to the kernel.

Evolution was able to send an email if without any attachments.

Thank you.

It happens when I am using Gmail as an SMTP server.

In the gnome bug report (linked above by Tien Nguyen) someone else also mentioned Gmail.

Hi everyone,

I don't know if this could be the fix or it just works for me.
It turns out that my problem is with my connection settings.

Problem before:
Ubuntu 8.10
Kernel: 2.6.27-11-generic
Evolution 2.24.3
Using Gmail IMAP/SMTP
Connection: Modem/Router; PC has static IP.

Earlier I've tried to send e-mail w/ mp3(ring tone) attachment, about 250KB in size.
Error: 'DATA command failed: Connection timed out: mail not sent'.
Receiving mail is ok; Sending mail without attachment is ok;
Googling the net to find for possible fix but no luck. Aside form that problem,
I also notice that few websites are loading too slow or just loading forever.

Checked on my interface card and I've noticed that my MTU was set to 1500.
I edit the interfaces file, set MTU to 1492 and reboot my computer.
Go back to the website that has a problem loading and it works fine now :).
Launch Evolution and re-create email w/ attachment, VIOLA!!! the problem was fixed. :)

That can not be (or should not be) the source of the problem. Because I know
that the problem did not happen for other applications and web mail
interface. The problem is intermitent so I think you just lucky for a moment
there. I gave up Evolution and went to ThunderBird and web mail.

That being said, one can't argue with success.

Cheers,

Thanks Martin for closing this bug. I am sure that it disappeared by now.

My closing comment would be I actually move away from any type of local e-mail clients. Web mail clients looks much better every day and with off line support such as Gmail, there is no real reason to install huge app any more.

Cheers,
