Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Release: 8.04
Package: openoffice.org 2.4.0-3ubuntu6

Opening a new document of any kind using oofromtemplate worked till upgrade to OpenOffice 2.4 and Hardy heron

Opening a new document using oofromtemplate (not even using templates) causes OpenOffice to come into 'Document Recovery' due to an unexpected error. Opening new documents directly e.g. via oowriter works fine.
I can reproduce this behaviour on my desktop computer and on my laptop anytime.

Regards, Michael

I confirm what Penulci wrote in his last paragraph. Same crash.
No output when launching "oofromtemplate" via Terminal

Is this enough to confirm this bug ?

Does moving or removing ~/.openoffice.org2 correct the problem for you?

Thanks,

Nop, removing the directory does not solve the problem. Thanks anyway.

Does installing the 'openoffice.org' metapackage resolve the problem? I can't reproduce this problem locally so I am guessing at things that might help. :-\

Same crash with the openoffice packages 1:2.4.1rc2~ubuntu1 and with the JRE packages 6b10-0ubuntu1. They are in the hardy-proposed repositories.

Reinstalling the metapackage and removing ~/.openoffice.org2 does not solve the problem for me. These were the first attempts I took.
Currently I am running actual versions from hardy repository.
Can I provide you with some debugging info like strace output or similar?

I have the same bug. What does Fix Commited mean again? How soon do you expect to have this fix available?

Dadio,

It is fixed or at least appears to be fixed to me after testing, in the hardy-proposed repo. It should be in hardy-updates within the next week or two.

Since one user has commented that the bug was not fixed for him with 1:2.4.1rc2~ubuntu1, I'm marking this as needing further verification before it should be considered resolved.

Using 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu1 did not change behaviour (still crashing) when starting creating a new document with oofromtemplate.
strace does not give me any information.
If I may provide you with any additional debug information, I shall be pleased to do so asap.

Setting back to incomplete as we clearly don't have a handle on the cause. I've tested and cannot confirm the problem either on a clean install or an update to proposed.

Chris, any debugging info you can think of that would be useful? Would Apport catch this? (does a binary in fact crash?) If so, please try enabling Apport as described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed

Henrik,

Yea, enabling apport might give a useful crash report. I haven't been able to reproduce this problem either.

I had made an upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 and the bug was occurring as I mentioned earlier. But then I decided to reinstall 8.04 from scratch with a new user and after I installed all of the available upgrades, now the bug seems to be fixed on my system.

What kind of info do you need from my system to help resolve this issue if it is not resolved for some?

Does anyone still have this problem after upgrading to openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2? I think it may have fixed this problem.

Thanks,

I don't knowv (sadly) if the new update have fixed the bug. Fox "X" reason i did reinstall my ubuntu and the bug was fixed (without the update). My previous installation was from scratch and a had the bug, the new installation is from scratch too and i don't have the bug. Sorry for not report with apport the old problem. If the new update does not fix the problem someone can still activate the apport.

Conclusion in may case, problem solved... maybe the problem is caused by a previous update near the release date of 8.04.

I can say it did not for me, oofromtemplate still lets openoffice crash due to an unexpected error. Since I got a new computer I will do a new reinstall from the scratch within the next days on base of Ubuntu amd64.
