Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox skips randomly while playing all types of music files. The skipping doesn't occur in the same place every time, and it seems to be totally random. This started happening since I upgraded from 7.10 to 8.04. I've seen in some othewr threads that the crossfade option can cause this, but I'm not running that option.

Computer is a Dell Inspiron 5100 with 2.4 GHz processor and 512mb ram.

rhythmbox --version
GNOME rhythmbox 0.11.5
ryan@ryan-laptop:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04

Thank you for your bug report. Do you get the issue if you don't run pulseaudio and use alsasink in the gstreamer-properties dialog?

Hello and thank you for your reply.

Actually in gtreamer-properties I had ALSA selected. I selected pulseaudio
and the problem exists with that also.

I just tried playing some music in Totem, and it appears that the problem
exists there too.

ok, that's not a rhythmbox issue then, did you try totem-gstreamer or totem-xine? it would be interested to look if that's specific to gstreamer softwares

Hi again,

I was using totem-gstreamer. I just installed totem-xine and gave that a try
and I have skipping in that app too. Interestingly enough, I was watching
the graphs in System Monitor, and every time the music skips, the scrolling
in System Monitor stops, consistently with the music. The skipping does not
always correspond with 100% CPU usage, although I see higher CPUutilization
than I did under Gutsy (ususally 60-80%, with Firefox and whatever music
player I'm using taking up the most). If this bug should be transported over
to another package, let me know how to do that.

Thanks,
Ryan
