Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Hi,
I'm really surprised not to see any occurence of this regression issue on the mozilla site, neither on the launchpad.
There are two major problems (i think they are related, with java plugin or some)
I use FF 3.0b5 with java 6 under hardy. I found the same bug for users under windows (see the following links)

http://groups.google.com/group/google-talk-help-uk/browse_thread/thread/9250833baa308abd
http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.feedback.firefox/browse_thread/thread/1771bea153bc8976/68b3aed8c5e4916d?lnk=gst&q=chat#68b3aed8c5e4916d

The fact is that Gmail chat does not even appear anymore if you don't run the newer version of gmail in english US. I'm french, so when i set my language i don't have anymore acces to chat functionnalty.
For instance, It works fine with Opera.

The problem with Gmail notepad extension is that when you open your notepad, it opens a new blank window. It may open in the corner of the very same window you are surfing.

I think these 2 bugs are related because gmail notepad open the same kind of window that Gmail chat opens.

And i found many other sites using floating chat functionnalty that does'nt work (but i could'nt swear they were working before release of beta 5)

Hi John,

This is not a core dumping bug.. Firefox does not crash at all, i shall not
give you any trace of it, just the screenshot of the result.
I just installed the mozilla-firefox-locale-fr-fr and restarted my browser,
but it changed nothing.
I also tried with a new virgin user account ( to see if it was'nt my profile
'cause you dont have the same ) and it's still the same. no improvement.
My java machine is sun-java6-jre.
I attach the dump of my about:plugins page.
If your gmail account is in english US, just try setting it in French or
else (but not in english), and see the chat functionnalty disappearing.

Before sending you this reply i've tried the 3 java plugins with no more
succes: gcj, java5 and java6.

regards.

Hi John,

Today, Google seems to have updated his gmail app for "the rest of the
worl".
So now, I use it in French and the Gmail Chat functionamty appears. I've
also the "newer/older version setting" that appears.... And if i set to
"older version" the bug is back again... but i won't ;)

Was it a real bug of Firefox? Or a Google "miscompliance" to standard ... I
can't say. should you? (i know that the major purpose of Firefox 3 is the
compliance to rendering standards... acid tests and so...)

Still the Google Notes extension suffers the same old bug: it opens in a
blank window.

Regards.

I also faced the same problem with GMail and Hardy. Chat doesn't load and shows a message that "Chat is Disabled". But it's working now after clearing the cookie and cache :)
