contents of /etc/acpi/suspend.d ignored

This is in the latest hardy:

    Linux delly 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

To reproduce:
$ sudo -s
# cat > /etc/acpi/00-test.sh<<EOF
#!/bin/sh
touch /tmp/suspend.tst
EOF
# chmod +x /etc/acpi/00-test.sh

Now suspend and resume. Then

  ls /tmp/suspend.tst

I expect to see a file there. Instead I get "no such file."

The same goes for the contents of /etc/pm/sleep.d and /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d

I take my second comment back; /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/* are not ignored. However,

1. I stand by my initial statement that /etc/acpi/suspend.d/* are ignored.

2. the usual tricks one uses to run X applications as the X user (setting up XAUTHORITY and DISPLAY) don't seem to work in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d scripts

I'm having the same problem. From other things I have read, it seems this was intentional, though I don't know why.

It's just broken. /etc/default/acpi-support, if it has any effect at all, can't have all the effects it purports to. For example, DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH is activated by one of the /etc/acpi/resume.d scripts. Really, I appreciate all the work that's done gratis to make Ubuntu great, but I think this is a serious problem. It's bad enough to break backward compatibility without providing a transition path, but to leave the old stuff lying around and yet non-operational seems irresponsible. People will think existing instructions and their dapper/edgy/feisty/gutsy tweaks work, but they don't.

I've integrated my replacement for DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH into the workaround posted in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24/+bug/197209

Yes, separating it would be better. Maybe someday.

The real problem is that the acpi-support package needs to be cleaned up for stuff that isn't used anymore.
