Thanks for your report, Is this happening with all the pdf files you're seeing? do you have enabled the visual effects (compiz)? Does it happens without them? If you're seeing this with only one pdf can you attach it to the report?

I have compiz enabled. It doesn't happen for a specific pdf. It happens to all of them. Once it will happen then the next time I open it it will load fine. It looks like it happens randomly or at least i can't find any specific cause for it. I'll try opening some files with and without compiz over the weekend and will post again.
I wasn't having this problem in gutsy.

I think the priority of this bug should be at least medium, this is a very annoying bug, and one that should be fixed asap. Especially new/novice users can get confused by this. It happens to my at least 50% of the time when opening a .pdf

Same problem for me (I wanted to report, then I find it was already reported), it happens especially when evince is in fullscreen I think.
Compiz enabled too.

Resizing the window (unmaximizing) «resolve» the problem.

It's very annoying.

It is happeining even when a small file is being opened, but once the file gets opened it runs smoothly. I have tried it without compiz also, but the problem is still existing.
I have earlier used 7.10 & this was not a problem there.

I can reproduce this bug in evince 2.22.2-0ubuntu1. Specifically I see this bug every time I open certain pdfs from firefox. Unmaximizing evince gets rid of the loading screen and displays the pdf as normal.

This bug only occurs with desktop effects enabled.
