Bug Description

Binary package hint: icedtea-gcjwebplugin

OpenJDK Java Web Start cannot open java-programs in web. A fine example is GeoGebra WebStart:
http://www.geogebra.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=70&Itemid=57

If I click "Geogebra WebStart", it only opens OpenJDK Java Web Start "Certificates" window. I think Firefox uses command "/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/bin/javaws -viewer" to open this viewer - if i set Firefox to open geogebra.jnlp by command "/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/bin/javaws" (just without '-viewer' -option, Geogebra loads and opens fine)

GeoGebra is only on example. I have same problem with other java-application too.

Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy

* firefox 3.0~b5+5nobinonly-0ubuntu2
* icedtea-gcjwebplugin 1.0-0ubuntu5
* openjdk-6-jre 6b09-0ubuntu1

I believe I have the same problem... I previously used to just type "javaws" into the terminal to open up Java Web Start, so I could then select from the applications I have installed; now it opens a certificates window. When I try to type "javaws http://files.gokgs.com/javaBin/cgoban/jnlp" (as per instructions at gokgs.com, which have worked on every other system I have tried it on), I get an error message:

netx: Launch Error: Could not launch JNLP file. (java.lang.NullPointerException null)

I don't know what netx is, or why it's trying to take over this operation...

Help is greatly appreciated.

correction:

http://files.gokgs.com/javaBin/cgoban.jnlp

.jnlp, not /jnlp.

apologies.

Hello? Has anyone seen this yet?

Typing "javaws" into the terminal brings up a certificates page (this is one example of the problem that is mentioned above, albeit simplified).

It should bring up the Java WebStart control application.

@topias.virta,

Can you please install latest updates on your hardy system and try reproducing the problem?

@fINTiP/Craig,

I have no issues on intrepid at least opening both geogebra as well as cgoban. Both command line as well as opening from browser works. Any chance your java alternatives are not setup properly?

My apologies - I stand corrected. After an update and a reboot, the apps seem to work correctly when launched from the commandline or from Firefox. I swear they didn't work yesterday though!
