Bug Description

Binary package hint: ntp

Open Time and Date from System menu.

In the configuration list, select keep synchronized with internet servers
A dialog pops up informing that NTP support is not installed.
Click install NTP support.
A dialog pops up asking for authentication to use Synaptic.

Click the synchronize now button.
ISSUE - 2: Nothing happens.
Dismiss the Time and Date dialog

Repeat the above process. The same behavior is seen again and again.

I just tested under 8.04 final release.
Actually synaptic downloaded ntp packages but the configuration remained in manual mode.
I insisted to "keep syncronized with....", asked me again if I want to download ntp and then does nothing!

After several tries I just closed the "Time and Date Settings" dialog and reopened it:
things were already configured as I wanted.

But why do I have to reopen the window to see the change being applied??

This bug is important to be fixed!

I can second this. time-admin should detect NTP immediately after it auto-installs it

seems to me more of a bug in the gnome time-admin program, than the npt package.

i am getting the issue in hardy.

after a few open and closes of time-admin it realises that ntp is installed
