Bug Description

Binary package hint: apt

Daily build of hardy-desktop-i386 April 8 running on Wubi rev 479.
In Mozilla Firefox 3 Beta 5 the flash plug-in does not install correctly - neither when using the package manager nor when installing through the browser.. Even though the installation process appears to run smoothly and complete successfully - when you encounter a flash object the browser shows "click to install missing plug-in" - and when you proceed you are told that the plug-in is installed.
By fetching the plug-in myself as a tar.gz file I managed to install the plug-in correctly when I indicated the Mozilla installation directory as /usr/lib/firefox-3.0b5.
The apt version is indicated as synaptic 0.61Ubuntu8.

Forgot to mention that the hardy-desktop build did not have this problem about a week ago.

Hi John,
I hope you see the answer this way when I answer your mail:

Version of apturl is 0.2.0 ubuntu1 at present

Version of ubufox is 0.5~rc1-0ubuntu1

Firefox is 3.0b5 as reported
Firefox indicates that the Shockwave Flash version is 9.0 rl24

I found that I have libflashplayer.so installed in 2 directories:
usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree
usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins

At that point of time "Add/remove programs" reported that I had the flash
plugin installed.
Then I had "Add/remove programs" remove the program.
Then the program in the first directory disappeared - but flash movies like
"The Daily Show" continued to work.

Hope this helps! Otherwise I will try to-morrow to see if the new build
still has the error.

Thank you so much!
I'v been using Firefox 2, but I'v been busy these days.
So I will try to fix the problem next time.
Thank you all the same, and the Ubuntu community is amazingly active!

Please look in firefox-3.0 directory to see if you see it in the plugins
file. this could be because it wasnt placed in firefox-3.0 profile but
in 2.0 instead.

As far as I can see this is not a duplicate of bug #214538, since I got no errors in installing the plug-in, but confirmation that the plug-in was installed - but it did not work.
But for me - using the daily build of hardy-desktop-i386 and Wubi-8.04-beta-rev482 downloaded to-day Fri 11th April the fix made by John Vivirito above works!
I let the FireFox 3.0b5 install the flash plugin the first time it met a Flash object and it worked perfectly.
For information I include a file list of the /usr library before (jlj1.list) and after (jlj2.list) the flash plug-in installation.
I am new to this - but really amazed at how well this works!
(Well it appears that I am not allowed to upload attachments - and it is probably not necessesary).
Thanks to all!

Versions according to manifest:

firefox-3.0-gnome-support 3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

Saivann, the other bug report you mention is a different issue, this one is not installing in right profile as it should be profile of FF-3.0 but instead it installs in profile for 2.0.
the other repoert is when using ubufox open a page with flash and it will ask if you want flash player installed and it states installed no matter what the case. that was fixed in apturl+uibufox this needs to be fixed in firefox since we support 2 versions and it thinks 2.0 is default.
