Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnochm

Could be linked to bug #82301
Hardy heron 8.04 (alpha 5 to beta) updated

I can't see the whole content of a .chm file, e.g. when there is a big picture included in the content, I have to zoom out to see the text below it, or the rest of the page. But then, the text is so small that I can't read it!
We need a vertical scrollbar for the main content area, it looks like the problem are the big pictures
(attached an example)

$ apt-cache policy gnochm
gnochm:
  Installed: 0.9.9-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 0.9.9-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 0.9.9-0ubuntu3 0

Also, when zooming in, the scrollbar stays the same size and the page lenghtens making it impossible to scroll down to see the content below the end of the first page.

Same here, on Hardy, GnoCHM (0.9.11-1~getdeb1) cuts off the document under the fold, so that you can read only the first screen from a given page. The content is still there, you just can't scroll to see it. In other viewers it's displayed ok.

Bug confirmed on Ubuntu 8.10, with gnochm version 0.9.11-2

The vertical scrollbar is present, but it only permits to scroll one line (or so) down; it is not possible to see the rest of each page.

Still exists in Jaunty, gnochm 0.9.11-2 (same version as in Intrepid?).

As I see on its sourceforge webpage, its upstream developer haven't released any updates since September 2007, so if no one wants to continue its development then it can be considered dead (aka "Won't Fix") soon.

The bug should remain open until someone fixes it.
I believe you should contact and ask the upstream author directly
instead of making any assumptions about the release. :-)
If the project is indeed dead, you can file a bug report to ask for its removal

Just been got by this myself trying to read some documents (not used CHM before).

Has the author been contacted with regards to ongoing development? If not i'm happy to try and get in touch but the inclusion of the package in lucid makes me think that we're just including apps for inclusions sake irrespective of quality/functionality.

Also this doesn't apply to just pages with images (rename bug possibly?) but to all pages that are longer than one screen-size.
