Bug Description

Binary package hint: gthumb

Hi there,

I think gThumb should be built by default with libiptcdata support to allow adding tags ("categories") as metadatas inside images. Rebuilding gThumb with libiptcdata & libiptcdata-dev installed from apt-get did the trick for me. That's on Hardy Heron, AMD64.

Thanks

Joel

I strongly agree with Joel. IPTC is a standard used by many photographers and the gthumbdevelopers has made it supported in gthumb. There is absolutly no reason this is built without IPTC-support in Ubuntu. My guess is that the one responsible for this package perhaps did not think iptc was needed.

This is included in the 2.10.8 source (that has been uploaded to Intrepid). However, the libiptcdata package is in universe, while gthumb is in main.

So what is needed is libiptcdata being moved to main?

I have not tried to make a maininclusionreport for libiptcdata0. I do not know if I made it correctly..perhaps someone else can make some small changes needed?

Great, Åskar. Where is the report?

However I understand that the report propably is not very good, but it is as good as I can do it im afraid.. I thought it was better to at least have something than nothing..

Thanks, that's a good start. But the report itself should be a wiki page (with a link to that bug).

This bug should now be fixable since libiptcdata has been promoted to main :)

Åskar, congratulations with the promotion :) It should be enough to revert the last change I did in 3:2.10.8-1ubuntu2, that is, the -1ubuntu1 version should build it successfully.

I built the new version in my PPA, and it worked fine.

You guys rock. All I can say is "thank you very much". Now hopefully the next version of GThumb will support XMP tags :)
