Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When I visit a web page, it will not load. I receive the message The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.

Immediately I hit 'try again' and the web page loads properly.

Going to a Windows machine using Firefox, I never have this problem. Going from Windows to Ubuntu to Windows, the error consistently happens on Ubuntu but not on Windows.

Hi Basilio -

Thank you so much for looking at this and providing your results.

I don't think it is a network problem, because I have a separate Windows PC,
with Firefox and can get into all of the sites immediately.

I tried your suggestion of loading Midori. When I go to any of the problem
sites, it just hangs and does nothing.

Since you are able to go to the site, you must have software on your machine
that isn't on mine. Any idea on what else I may have to load in order to
display these pages? The most important one is
www.frontlineplacement.com/education -- my wife uses this for work.

Thank you for all of your help!

Can you please test this with other browsers in Ubuntu to see if you get same issue including epiphany-browser and firefox-2 and let us know please.
This problem may not be related to firefox but possible network-manager but wont know without more info.

Hi John -

I tried it with Ephipany & also with Firefox 2. On the initial pass through
the webpage, it sometimes works. However, when I try again, the webpage
just "spins" and times out.

I have great network reception, and can go to other pages without problems.
I even downloaded both Ephiphany & Firefox 2 between attempts at going to
the trouble sites.

Again, the main one is www.frontlineplacement.com -- my wife uses this for
work.

I have IE and Firefox 2 on my Windows PC, and never have this problem going
to the site. I even alternated Ubuntu & Windows in the same time frame.
Ubuntu typically has the "spinning" problem; Windows never does.

The same issue occured with Ubuntu 7.10 & Firefox 2.0.

I truly appreciate all of your help.

If I can help in anyother way, please let me know.

I don't think it is a Firefox issue, for what it's worth. Could I need
another piece of software not included in the Ubuntu 8.04 install?

If i can send any other diagnosis information, please let me know.

Thank you so much.

Hi -

I truly appreciate all of your effort. I was not able to fully load this
page. It would partially load, and then just 'spin'.

While it was spinning, I pressed the "Get Started" button. Then it
eventually timed out with the following message:

Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try
again.

This happened on several attempts.

After receiving this error, I immediately went to youtube & watched a
video. So my network connection was working properly.

Thanks again. It sounds like you have a suspicion as to what the problem
is. If I can help further, please let me know.

Well, this is a confirmed bug!!

Since some days, I can't load pages such as examples:
http://translator.live.com
http://skydrive.live.com
www.priberam.pt/DLPO

And some others.

I believe this bug is incorrectly assigned to firefox-3.0.
Not, even wget, can get this pages.

See the output at the attachment.
At this moment, I have a full speed line available just for me. Don't forget to watch the ' 378.71B/s' to see how strange this is.

At my machine, with wget I get what you can see in the last log.
At firefox the message is:
"Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again."

Firefox was doing is job correctly.
As we see at wget log, the connections was really reset.

Right now, I don't now how to debug the connection to the server.
Please someone provide some directives (and assign this bug to the correct packge).

I feel compelled to disagree.

I'm getting the "The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again." with Firefox 3 Beta 5.

It works however with wget and midori.

I will look into it and if I find something useful it will be posted here.

OK, I did some digging here.

I got this because of a messed up cookie! Or something in that direction.

If I delete the cookie I will get access to the site and then after opening ~10-15 links the error occurs again.

This only happens in Firefox 3 Beta 5 for me. Although it is possible to transfer the cookie into another browser and by that being denied access.

I transferred it to Opera 9.27 under Hardy Heron and also to IE7 & Firefox 2.0.0.14 under Windows Vista with the same results.

After analysing the traffic I can see that after I've done a HTTP request and provided the web server with my cookie I receive an ACK followed by a very pretty RST, ACK.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

I can verify that removing cookies for an "affected" site solved this problem for me. I had it happen in Firefox 3.0b5. No other computers (with older versions of FF) have had issues with this particular site (www.aftonbladet.se). Cleaning out the cookies enabled me to access the site again.
Like Beefeater, I have to disagree with linovski on this one.

I can also verify Beefeater & vejneke's claims. Had the exact same problem with www.aftonbladet.se. Cleaning out all of aftonbladet's cookies makes the site work flawlessly again. In this special case, it's not a network problem, but some mixup with Firefox's cookie handling and the particular server - not a network problem (at least not in the ordinary sense).
