Bug Description

When I installed Gutsy, xorg was able to give me 1024x768 resolution.

I installed Hardy Beta and my max resolution is only 800x600.

There should be one more option for 1024x768 for my ThinkPad R30

I do confirm the report of Jepong, I tested it on the latest Hardy Heron release with Toshiba Tecra 8200 (Trident Cyberblade).

Thanks in advance.

I have this on my R30 using 8.10 release version. All requested files included.

Native 1024x768 is not available in the Resolution selection GUI. Instead I just get 800x600, 640x480, 400x300, and 320x240.

Here's a work around that will give you 1024x768 resolution (see attached xorg.conf), but the video acceleration is non-existent at any resolution. From what I have read, the acceleration issue is due to the xorg trident driver being crap. If I could code a new one I would, but alas, I cannot. Xfree86 had/has a good trident driver, but it's not the X server of choice anymore.

I can confirm the the workaround Wayne Towe posted does show the desktop in the right resolution.

This is the xorg.conf with only the essential statements to get the right resolution on the R30.

Confirmed with 10.10 on a Toshiba R100.

Using the xorg.conf at this URL fixes it

http://kubuntu-portege.blogspot.com/2008/10/xorgconf-using-trident-diver.html

SO the issue is that the trident driver does not correctly detect the available resolutions,

Confirm repeated with Xubuntu 10.10 on Toshiba Tecra 8200 (Trident CyberBlade/XP).

Xorg -configure segfaults, which may explain default to 800x600. Attached Xorg.99.log shows the backtrace after failing to open /dev/fb0.

Attached xorg.conf restores the correct default and choice of resolutions. It seems to be important to set XAA rather than EXA acceleration (=> blank screen).
