Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox freezes after pressing pause, play and next song every time. I have to kill it and start it again to have it usable. Since this doesn't produce a .crash file in /var/crash I cannot attach that report and instead am reporting from within rhythmbox's report a problem. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron, rhythmbox version 0.11.5-0ubuntu1. I previously reported the bug but was closed as invalid. If you need any extra information I'll try to provide it. This worked in Gutsy and certainly would like to see it fixed.

Martin,

I can not reproduce this on a 32 bit machine. (Dell Inspiron 6000).
This may be solely a 64 bit machine problem.
Will someone with a 64 bit installation of hardy please confirm this bug?

Thanks for your bug report. Please try to obtain a backtrace http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and attach the file to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem. The description is not clear, the topic says it crash in case you should use apport to send the crash and the description say it hangs, what does it do exactly?!

I am attaching a backtrace. I'm not sure how helpful it is but if you need anything else I'll try to help as much as possible. What basically happens is Rhythmbox stops responding completely. No music, no buttons work anymore, it cannot be used at all. With compiz it grays it out. It doesn't exit on its own and i'm guessing that's why it doesn't report anything with apport. That is why I have to kill the process.

there's no backtrace on the file you attached, can you do the following: run rhythmbox and when it get hanged , run gdb with something like: gdb /usr/bin/rhythmbox PID ; PID being the process number of the rhythmbox that it's hanged, then you can get a backtrace as usual, thanks.

ok here's what comes up when I do that. If it's still not enough tell me what to do to get a better backtrace

I finally took a look at creating a backtrace just to find the bug already being reported here and now fixed upstream :)

When can we expect this to be fixed in hardy?

The issue seems annoying but only few users seem to run into it and hardy is frozen now, it's not likely to be changed there now, could be something to change in hardy-updates though

The patch doesn't seem big, not as big as the firefox beta updates so any specific issues about fixing fixed bugs *before* a LTS release?

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

The issue is a manpower one, somebody needs to prepare the update, ask for freeze exception, somebody else needs to review the changes, etc. There is hundred of bugs that would be nice to get fixed but we don't have the manpower to work on everything right now so we have to prioritize work

I've uploaded a backported patch to hardy, let's see if it's accepted now
