Bug Description

[ Impact ]

pycallgraph will fail to build from source in Jammy with the error:

error in pycallgraph2 setup command: use_2to3 is invalid.
E: pybuild pybuild:369: clean: plugin distutils failed with: exit code=1: python3.10 setup.py clean
dh_auto_clean: error: pybuild --clean -i python{version} -p 3.10 returned exit code 13
make: *** [debian/rules:6: clean] Error 25
dpkg-buildpackage: error: fakeroot debian/rules clean subprocess returned exit status 2

[ Test Plan ]

check in logs if python3-pycallgraph builds properly.

As a basic sanity test execute "pycallgraph --help".

And it should display the help menu.

[ Where problems could occur ]

The problem is caused as '2to3' has been removed from 'setuptools'. Its used for automatic Python2 to Python3 conversion, so without 2to3, the built binary might still have some incompatibility with Python3 and users might see pycallgraph not working. But 'pycallgraph' is already unusable for LP: #2062065 so users wont see any new regression.

[ Other Info ]

This change has been in Debian since '1.1.3-2' package which has been in Mantic and Noble without any issues (apart from LP: #2062065)

[ Original Bug Description ]

dh_auto_clean: error: pybuild --clean -i python{version} -p 3.10 returned exit code 13

Hello Sudip, or anyone else affected,

Accepted pycallgraph into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pycallgraph/1.1.3-1.2ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

I can confirm that python3-pycallgraph from jammy-proposed has fixed the bug for me.

Test done:

install python3-pycallgraph and try to execute "pycallgraph --help" and confirmed that it still fails.

Added jammy-proposed to apt sources.
install python3-pycallgraph from jammy-proposed.

Followed the testplan and tried "pycallgraph --help" to confirm it works now.
Additionally follow the testplan from #2062065 and use the basic.py and confirmed it creates the two png files.

Package tested:

$ apt-cache policy python3-pycallgraph
python3-pycallgraph:
  Installed: 1.1.3-1.2ubuntu0.1
  Candidate: 1.1.3-1.2ubuntu0.1
