Bug Description

I ran sudo apt upgrade and an error dialog popped up. It asked if I wanted to submit a bug report, so I did. I honestly have no idea what happened.

You are running a kernel (version 6.8.0-36-generic) and attempting to remove the same version.

Looks like package conf is set wrong.

I tried to do:
$ sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-24.04
But not reproduced.

I will get kernel team to check it.

Hi Paul, from the attached DpkgHistoryLog.txt, it does not show 'apt upgrade' was run. Are you certain that it was the command you ran which led to the error in the subject?

To be fair, it could be a coincidence that the error popped up while I was
running the update. That's the only thing that I was actively doing at the
time, so I just assumed the two were related.

The error stated in the subject was caused by removing the currently running kernel package, but it's unclear why/how that happened.

Can you attach the output of `sudo apt upgrade -o Debug::pkgProblemResolver=true' to this bug?
