Steps to reproduce: command line
$ touch ä
$ zip x.zip ä

will result in

> *** buffer overflow detected ***: terminated
>
>
> zip error: Interrupted (aborting)

Thanks, indeed it has issue with encoding, Fedora has a patch for it

which I confirmed fixes the issue described in the report
