Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I installed a fresh Ubuntu 8.04 beta on my Toshiba U200-163 (intel graphic driver).

I experience a severe lag when scrolling on page with Javascript (such as Gmail). It takes ages to scroll down the page, line after line and the scroll continue for 10 or 15 seconds after I stopped scrolling.

This is when using Metacity and no compiz at all.

When using Compiz, this bug appears on all pages, even a straight google search.

It must be noted that this was never the case with Firefox 2. Epiphany is also affected.

I installed today the fix for bug #177492 and rebooted : I still have a huge performance issue on Gmail. So the bug is not fixed or this issue is not a duplicate of the bug.

I don't think that this is a Firefox issue since Gmail is a widely used website and Google is the biggest sponsor of Mozilla.
Please attach the follow information:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf
/var/log/Xorg.0.log
output of lspci -vvnn
output of apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel

One thing to try is if configuring to use XAA makes the issue go away. If so, then this may just be the well-known EXA issues described by cworth here: http://cworth.org/talks/lca_2008/
