What controller are you trying to use dmraid with? A few dtails about what hardware you use would also be useful.

i just came across this.

the latest patch to fix the jmicron raid name issue (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dmraid/+bug/152818) is the cause here.

fix: (sorry for the non patch)

Is this tested? If not, I can publish a package for people to test.

Sorry, haven't had much chance at testing it, no.
It doesn't core dump anymore, but i'm not sure if the result in /dev/mapper is OK, as my fakeraid partitions were kind of broken (the reason why i used the latest live-cd) ...

I do however feel more confidence in the proposed patch against 1.0.0.13 (http://www.redhat.com/archives/ataraid-list/2007-February/msg00003.html)

I am available for any testing as soon as i fix my disk issues, which shouldn't take long.

Ok. there is a package available for testing in my PPA, http://ppa.launchpad.net/themuso/ubuntu. This package contains the original fix you gave. If this still is not successful, I'll pull the patch I added originally, and try using the above linked patch instead.

I am still not having any success in listing my disk's partitions
(ntfs - vista), either in /dev/mapper or using fdisk ("Disk
/dev/mapper/jmicron_GRAID doesn't contain a valid partition table")
but i can't tell if this is related to the name issue.

The 1 line patch definetely fixes the core dump though and is pretty
straight forward so at least this bug looks closed.

Ok, it seems that i got my partitions working so will file another bug
report for a different issue (set device order was reversed).

I've decided to upgrade today to Heron and unfortunately encounter this issue still, even after putting your PPA in my sources.list. At the moment, the system only boots with the old kernel from Gutsy.

Here's the output of apt-get upgrade and then update:

Apologies. This is a bad bug report. It was only due to the inability to replace the older package. I attempted to remove, but it reported a very bad inconsistent state.

I actually managed to get everything working and dmraid of this PPA package fixes the problem for me.

I did the following:
* Edited sources.list to use the standard urls.
* apt-get update
* used "apt-get remove dmraid" > error: package in very bad inconsistent state.
* renamed /etc/init.d/dmraid to /etc/init.d/dmraid.bak
* removed old package.
* edited sources.list. Added the PPA.
* apt-get update
* apt-get install dmraid > no problems installing "Version: 1.0.0.rc14-0ubuntu3~ppa1"
* dmraid -ay > no problems or crashes
* restart -> voila! everything works on 8.04!
