After clicking Place Hold from a patron's account, the staff catalog is retrieved with the patron's data at the top of the catalog. The patron's data stays while searching the catalog and/or adding records to a basket until the "Clear" button is clicked or the staff person leaves the catalog.
If a hyperlink from the Staff View tab of a bibliographic record is clicked, it creates a new search and removes the patron data. The staff member will then either have to look up the patron after they click Place Hold again (from either a bib record or the basket function), or pull up the patron account and start again.

This is not directly related to what's going on in bug 2020795, but noting that replacing the href-style links in Staff View with routerLinks may be a path towards resolving this issue.
