[iwl3945] Intel 3945ABG wireless card stops working on Hardy upgrade

Upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 and a working 3945ABG wireless card stops working. Network manager shows 3 wired interfaces instead of 1 wired and 1 wireless.

Removing the following line from /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and rebooting fixes the problem

This bug happened for me too.
I can confirm that removing the udev rule fixes the issue.

bug #203705 (not necessarily the same issue) suggests that a update of the driver from 1.2.0 to 1.2.26k may solve the problem.

I have this problem too with intel 3495after upgrade from gutsy: wireless adapter treated as wired, and an "extra" wired interface added. After deleting all lines from /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and rebooting, the file was re-created and now there are only two interfaces, eth0 for wired and wlan0 for wireless.
However, I still cannot see any access points in the network manager.
This problem exists only with Hardy kernel. When I use gutsy kernel the wireless work just fine.

Having the same problem after Hardy upgrade. Wireless connects and then immediately disconnects.

Here's another "me too".

Gutsy -> Hardy on Compaq nc6320 broke wireless.

Commenting out the udev rule fixes the problem.

I can confirm this bug, however, following the suggestion to modify the udev rules resulted in a DIFFERENT 3rd networking device.

On my Vaio VGN C240E (intel 3945 wireless), iwconfig displays the following;
-----------
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

wifi0 unassociated ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Monitor

rtap0 no wireless extensions.

------------

Please note I have never seen this "rtap0" before modifying the udev rules. My wireless is still not working, and i'm about to revert the udev file.

Commenting out udev rule doesn't work, but it sure fixed the wlan0_rename problem, and the little hang on bootup.

ok so what do i do ? wheres /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules? in terminal? i not familiar with the lingo yet=D

This bug seems to be being investigated by the udev people at bug 208103. I'm not quite sure what to do about whether to mark one or the other as duplicates: this bug has several duplicates (not all of which actually seem to be about /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules at all), but the udev developers are starting to comment at bug 208103.
