Bug Description

Lubuntu QA-test install on
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6230, 7gb amd/ati rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)

As reported in #lubuntu-devel, I changed the language in the lubuntu-installer-prompt from english(US) to english(AU), which caused both monitors to darken as the app/session? restarted and it re-appeared.

I again was given the option to choose a language; with it default to ENGLISH(US) AGAIN, despite my changing it to ENGLISH(AU) !

Simon said the language has changed (I can't tell given both are english in this example), BUT the app restarting has me return again with the default option asking if I want to change (away from) english(US) as if nothing was done.

We generally need to include more translations, and update the UI to choose the current locale. Low hanging fruit.

I can confirm this bug (if we are talking about what is done in the new desktop screen at the start of the live session).

When trying to set Swedish with or without 'confirming' the setting it springs back to US English.

When setting Swedish inside Calamares, things work well.

Tested Lubuntu Noble daily ISO 20231217.1

Live session on 2 machines - after confirming a change of language (Icelandic) the system springs back again with US English but selecting "Try Lubuntu" and entering the desktop the new language (Icelandic) is run on the desktop.

This is similar to comment #3 with the exception that the "live session# now starts withe the selected language.

Yes, there is some improvement. But there are still problems with Swedish.

I tested the current daily iso file dated Dec 17 (and today is Dec 18) so probably the same iso file as the one described in comment #4. I tested in a Dell Precision M4800 in UEFI mode. After selecting Swedish and confirming the screen was black for a long time, maybe it was downloading Swedish and tweaking the language dependent programs. Anyway I recognize the behaviour in comment #4.

After selecting 'Try Lubuntu' for example 'df' uses Swedish captions for the columns, but the keyboard is still US English. I still need 'setxkbmap se' to get a Swedish keyboard.

Can we please track that separately? The initial bug is in the process of being fixed :)

I'm a little late, but on an install today I checked for this [issue], and all good converting English(US) to English(AU)..

testcase: replace partition on dc7700 or box mentioned in initial bug description.

When testing Lubuntu Noble daily ISO dated 04-01-2024 took a further look at this and noticed that if you select for example English (Tuvalu) or English (Uganda) after confirm the system again shows English (United States) however if the user selects English (Australia) or English (South Africa) then the selected language shows after the confirmation.

It appears that one of the problems is that there are listed many selections for English that in reality do not exist i.e English(Slovenia).
