Bug Description

I upgraded to Ubuntu 23.10 from 23.04. Everything seems to work except there is no audio output on streaming functions. The external bluetooth speaker is connected and detected. It is charged and responds to testing. Just no sound when playing videos or podcasts.

I had same issue.
I managed to fix it with pavucontrol (in "configuration" tab I changed Profile to "Play HiFi quality Music" (earlier it was "Pro Audio").

 Thanks for your response, Piotr.
I tried that, but wasn't given the option for "Play HiFi quality Music". Pro Audio was the only option in the drop down menu. There were some Analog Stereo options, but they were all unplugged and unavailable.

Any other suggestions?

Same thing is happening here with an Asus Z790. It was working properly on 23.04. Not on 23.10 the sound works like this:

HiFi 2.0 - Very low sound. I have to crank the sound to max to barely hear it.
HiFi 5.1 - Only the front ones sound (but they sound around 60% when the volume is at 100%, meaning, the actual volume of them is not full). The rear speakers dont even sound. You have to put your ear to the actual speaker to hear it.
HiFi 7.1 - The front ones work correctly but any others do not.

The headphones still work correctly via bluetooth, but the whole sound experience basically is dead. Everything is either very low or speaker mode or nothing at all.

The sound with the integrated sound card has disappeared, however it's working over HDMI and Bluetooth.
However, the integrated sound card is still listed in the sound devices and is supposed to have the sound

Same here, I was using Ubuntu 23.10 for a while, and on day my headset started behaving weirdly, I didn't installed anything.

When trying to troubleshoot, I noticed that I had audio working when choosing Handsfree mode, that's mono audio with mic input for my Senheiser HD BT40, but it doesn't work when choosing other configurations with stereo high fidelity aptX or anything else.

Moving forward, I noticed that even the laptop audio isn't working (Comet Lake PCH cAVS) from my hinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 3 Intel (15").

I think I broke my system even harder trying to fix it trying pipewire, wireplumber and such, now when I go to Sound Configuration I don't even see other previously available configurations when selecting the Headset. Is there some steps so I can restore default configurations =/?

Sorry, forgot to add that the device appears in the Sound settings correctly and the integrated microphone is working too. There's just no sound coming out of the speaker.

I eventually figured out that the control bar for my external speaker had been turned off somehow in the process. I turned it on and it has worked fine since.
