What's the output of:
$ dpkg -l evdi-dkms

evdi 1.12.0 is not an Ubuntu DKMS. Remove it and if you still need the evdi DKMS, install the Ubuntu package:
$ apt install evdi-dkms

Dear Juerg,
This happened on my work computer, I need that for work on a daily basis. I
accepted my losses and installed 23.04 from usb.

Now the output of the command is:
$ dpkg -l evdi-dkms
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
|
Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name Version Architecture Description
+++-==============-============-============-=================================
un evdi-dkms <none> <none> (no description available)

But that is probably not helpful.

Hope my bug report is able to help in avoiding others to end up with the
same problem.

Kind regards,
Norbert

I believe I fixed this in my case by installing the latest DispayLink drivers from https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/downloads/ubuntu. You may also find choosing the not-latest kernel in the boot menu will help.
