Bug Description

After updating to 23.04, none of the integrated shell extensions work.
This includes the dock, desktop icons and appindicators, for example.

Also, and I think related to this, the Desktop tab on the settings app doesn't work either.

See attached screenshot.

Thanks for the bug report. We will focus on supported extensions only here. Unsupported extensions will need to be ported to gnome-shell 44 by their respective authors...

Please try deleting unsupported extensions:

  cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
  rm -rf extensions

and then reinstall the supported extension:

  sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock

affects: gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock (Ubuntu) → ubuntu
Changed in ubuntu:
status: New → Incomplete

Please also run:

  dconf dump /org/gnome/shell/ > settings-changes.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

That seems to work.

I fully understand that the focus is on supported extensions only. However,
I have been updating this PC since 21.04 and it is the first time that an
Ubuntu update results in broken first-party extensions. Unsupported
extensions may break and that's ok, but first-party extensions shouldn't
break, especially this silently IMHO.

Feel free to close this bug if you think that it is out of scope, though.

Thanks!

Other extensions may eventually get support for GNOME 44 but when they do is beyond our control and not tracked in Launchpad either.
