Bug Description

Using Breezy with the 2.6.12 Ubuntu packages, with a Logitech optical mouse
connected via usb.

The mouse works fine with the 2.6.10 kernel from Hoary that I kept when
dist-upgrading to Breezy.

Under Xorg after the boot, the mouse works for a few seconds (typically 5
seconds or so after I log in), and then freezes : none of the buttons work, and
the cursor doesn't move. If I unplug it and plug it back, it starts working
again for a few seconds before freezing.

I managed to get it to work by using the usb->ps2 adaptor provided by Logitech
with the mouse, and then plugging this into a ps2->usb adaptor.

The kernel package is :
ii linux-image-2.6.12-7-386 2.6.12-7.11
Linux kernel image for version 2.6.12 on 386

Thanks !

The same here. I'm using a logitech cordless optical mouse with a keyboard,
connected to the usb. It worked fine since 2 days ago, when I dist-upgraded.
tail -f /var/log/messages fills with

kernel: [38887.754399] drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: input irq status -75 received

The keyboard is also starting to work bad...

I've just tried with kernel 2.6.13.4 from kernel.org (same config as 2.6.12 from
Ubuntu 5.10) and the problem is still not solved.

Is there anything I can do to track down the problem?

This also happens with kernel 2.6.15 on dapper.

If I unplug my mouse and then plug it in again, the mouse starts working.

The kernel guys don't seem to answer my question: is there anything I can do to
track down the problem? Extra logging, debugging symbols etc.?

Can you send dmesg output (fresh boot, and then another after the problem occurs).

Also send lsusb output.

The first line is my mouse.

My problem may be a bit different; it happens only after several hours of disuse. For example, when I use the computer before going to bed, everything works fine. Then go to sleep, wake up, have to ubplug/plug back in. Same goes for when I come back from work.

My solution is to keep an Xterm open with the following commands in history:

sudo modprobe -r uhci_hcd

sudo modprobe uhci_hcd

Then hit the space bar to get the display back, alt-tab to the terminal, enter those two commands, and the mouse is back.

It beats having to root around at the back of the computer.

I suppose a more automated workaround would be to have those two commands run in cron every 5 hours or so.

This patch was posted on http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5475

It seems that this is included in Suse kernels.

Can it be included in dapper also?
