Bug Description

When I want to add a Network Folder in Dolphin it won't open knetattach. I've tried it in some other ways, for example via Konsole or KRunner but nothing does start knettach.

Error message: KDEInit could not launch '/usr/lib/kde4/bin/knetattach'.

The path in the desktop file is wrong, to fix this the rules file for kdebase-runtime-kde4 needs an exception rule for knetattach.desktop

I don't know if this is related, but I get the exact same error message in Kate and KTorrent (in the case of the latter, only when launching ktorrent by clicking on a .torrent-link in Konqueror). Both programs works though so the problem is not as severe, but maybe the same core problem?

And maybe the somewhat odd paths I see in konsole is related as well:

which <insert name of KDE4 app here> gives:

/usr/lib/kde4/bin//kate (just replace the binary and it is a repeated pattern).

Notice the two slashes before the binary instead of just the normal one.

echo $PATH gives:

/usr/lib/kde4/bin/:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games

Now, I am not sure if this is related or even a problem but it certainly looks wrong.

@Jonas: Unrelated issue, please report a separate bug so we can track it down more easily :)

@Harald,

Done. Three different actually since they may not be related to one another.

This might not be fixed. I'm tried to create a network share via Dolphin and received the same message - KDEInit could not launch '/usr/lib/kde4/bin/knetattach'.

It most defenitely works in Intrepid (Kubuntu 8.10)

Hi Harald,

Unfortunately it is not working on my Kubuntu 8.10 which incidentally has been upgraded to KDE 4.1 and it is noticeable a few other things aren't working even if I revert to v3 KDE.

Dolphin >> Add network error message appears KDEInit could not launch '/usr/lib/kde4/bin/knetattach'

This is on a new pc new Ubuntu install with KDE upgrade and all updates applied.

Is there any diags I can run to assist?

David

Please create a new user and try again.

This error doesn't make any sense at all since knetattach isn't in /usr/lib/kde4 at all.

I created a new user but unfortunately exactly the same error message appears - KDEInit could not launch '/usr/lib/kde4/bin/knetattach'

Are you sure this is intrepid and not hardy with kde4.1 beta packages?

Had the same problem. Searched for knetattach, and found it in a different kde4 directory. A dynamic link then did the trick.
