Bug Description

Impact
------
This is a new stable release in the GNOME 43 series

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/blob/43.2/NEWS

(The current version in Ubuntu 22.10 is 43.0)

Nautilus 43 switched to GTK4 which was a major change for a complex app. Many regressions have been fixed in the new point release updates.

Test Case 0
-----------
Nautilus has a build test suite that will fail the build if the tests fail.

Test Case 1
-----------
Install the update
Make sure that Nautilus isn't running, either by logging out and logging back in or by running pkill nautilus
Run Nautilus and ensure that it still works well

What Could Go Wrong
-------------------
nautilus is the default GUI file browser for Ubuntu Desktop. Other desktop flavors use other file browsers.

As a component of GNOME Core, there is a micro-release exception for nautilus

Hello Jeremy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted nautilus into kinetic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/1:43.2-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-kinetic to verification-done-kinetic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-kinetic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Hi Brian, Jeremy, all,

I enabled kinetic-proposed, installed the new nautilus version, and per Test Case 1 restarted my session. I've tried using the updated version, and it seems to work well and as expected. I did some general testing: browsing to different directories, opening different kinds of files, checking file and folder properties and permissions, and mounting and opening a network storage. I experienced no problems or regressions, so I'm marking this as verification-done-kinetic.

The test plan is a bit superficial, but it is what it is.

The build-time tests ran and passed (17 in total). There were warnings about failing to create files/directories in the build env, but these were there before for previous releases as well.

The package built correctly in all architectures and Ubuntu releases it was meant for.

There are no DEP8 regressions.

There is no SRU freeze ongoing at the moment.

There is no halted phasing on the previous update.

This bug was fixed in the package nautilus - 1:43.2-0ubuntu1

---------------
nautilus (1:43.2-0ubuntu1) kinetic; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release (LP: #2002575)
    - Reintroduce the 67% (64px) zoom level for grid view
  * Drop CVE-2022-37290.patch since the new release includes a
more comprehensive fix for that issue
