Bug Description

I recently installed Kubuntu 22.04 in a dual-boot system with Windows - my computer did not ship with Linux. I ran an update through the KDE app Discover that updated the Dell BIOS. This update appeared to be successful. I then booted into Kubuntu and saw that Discover was telling me to restart to install other updates I had downloaded. I rebooted, but the message was still there. It appears that the updates are not actually installing when I restart. I am running a Dell XPS 17 9700. I have UEFI Secure Boot enabled. I have shut down the computer and booted into Kubuntu again, but this did not solve the issue. I ran fwupdmgr update and got

Devices with no available firmware updates:
 • DELL098F:00 04F3:311C
 • Integrated Webcam HD
Devices with the latest available firmware version:
 • UEFI dbx

...which suggests that a bad EFI binary is not at fault, as a person suggested to me.
I'm not sure what package, if any, is the problem here.
I expected the updates to install normally upon restarting, as they usually do. I instead experienced the above.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2001740/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I'm not sure if this is the right package causing it, but the issue relates to Dell hardware so under https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage#Hardware_Malfunctions I would presume it is related to the kernel.

If the command line tool fwupdmgr is reporting no more updates I don't believe this is a fwupd bug. It's probably KDE discover that needs to be investigated.

Should I report this bug to KDE as well then?

Yes, upstream KDE is a great place to report it if they don't have anyone looking at bugs for plasma-discover here.

This was filed here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=463894 and was closed due to incomplete. Closing here as well. If you still would like to help get it fixed please respond on the upstream bug. Thanks.
