Bug Description

[Impact]
This release sports mostly bug-fixes and we would like to make sure all of our
users have access to these improvements.

The update contains the following package updates:

   * openvswitch 3.0.1

[Test Case]
The following SRU process was followed:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OpenStack/StableReleaseUpdates

In order to avoid regression of existing consumers, the OpenStack team will
run their continuous integration test against the packages that are in
-proposed. A successful run of all available tests will be required before the
proposed packages can be let into -updates.

The OpenStack team will be in charge of attaching the output summary of the
executed tests. The OpenStack team members will not mark ‘verification-done’ until
this has happened.

[Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned tests are attached to this bug.

Hello Frode, or anyone else affected,

Accepted openvswitch into kinetic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openvswitch/3.0.1-0ubuntu0.22.10.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-kinetic to verification-done-kinetic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-kinetic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Oh, there's actually just one test that's being run for the openvswitch verification test suite, or do I misunderstand the output? If yes, I guess this feels a bit low on test coverage. Is there anything more we can test during every release?

I'll publish this update regardless.

The verification of the Stable Release Update for openvswitch has completed successfully and the package is now being released to -updates. Subsequently, the Ubuntu Stable Release Updates Team is being unsubscribed and will not receive messages about this bug report. In the event that you encounter a regression using the package from -updates please report a new bug using ubuntu-bug and tag the bug report regression-update so we can easily find any regressions.

Thank you, Łukasz!

The test is quite comprehensive though as in it puts the new package into a fully deployed OpenStack, with all that entails, and ensures everything still works as expected. I do agree with you that we probably could extend the regression testing.

I'll have a look at what Corey Bryant usually does, and also investigate if we could make use of the upstream system testsuite [0] with binaries from the package for some independent coverage.
