Bug Description

Upon installing hardy (alpha5) last week, I wanted to install vmware-server from the canonical partner repository. It's unavailable.

Will vmware-server be available in hardy, being a LTS-release?

Equally as important, will we be able to compile the vmmon kernel module?

This is terrible.

I did a dist-upgrade from Gusty to the Hardy RC.

Vmware refuses to work. My machines aren't running, etc.

Is there any way to fix this?

running /usr/opt/vmware-config.pl failes - the vmmon kernel module fails to build (as stated before)

I found a workaround. This worked for me, as stated - using x64 gutsy to hardy.

I confirm it does not work in hardy. It also refuses to open previously working virtual machines.
Daos anyboy know if there will be a new version?

Unfortunatey, as of release, no there won't be a copy of vmware-server
there. We have tried NUMEROUS times to get them to update our agreement
here and have made no headway. I have another meeting with them on
Wednesday and will update this bug then if there is any info I can share.

Perhaps one could install Virtualbox. It works flawless in hardy and can use the vmware .vmdk-files.

A question to Brian Thomason above.
Have you had any luck with vmware and getting it into hardy recently.

I don't have permissions to set this to Won't Fix, but it is my understanding that VMware has declined to provide any updates for this - one of the main reasons I'm no longer running vmware-server on my infrastructure.
