Bug Description

xorg reports 1600x1024 bogus resolution

[ Impact ]

 * User of NVIDIA GPU is able to switch to 1600x1024 resolution but cannot display anything under the resolution

[ Fix ]

Drop 001_fedora_extramodes.patch which was dropped from Fedora since xserver 1.5.0.

[ Test Plan ]

1. Find a test unit with NVIDIA GPU, or anything but use Xorg mode to enter the desktop
2. Type `xrandr` in terminal

Expected: The resolution 1600x1024 should not appear if the display does not support it.
Actual: The resolution 1600x1024 appears.

[ Where problems could occur ]

 * Lack of extra modes that the display might actually support.

Chris Halse Rogers (raof) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Yao, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xorg-server into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Before installing xorg-server 2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.2, xrandr gives 1600x1024 resolution which was not able to use on the test unit.

After upgrading to xorg-server 2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.2 from jammy-proposed, that resolution is removed from xrandr.

All autopkgtests for the newly accepted xorg-server (2:21.1.3-2ubuntu2.2) for jammy have finished running.
The following regressions have been reported in tests triggered by the package:

mpv-mpris/0.6-2 (arm64)
jsurf-alggeo/0.4.1+ds-3 (s390x)
ktimetracker/4:5.0.1-3 (armhf)

of the failed autopkgtests only this one remains:

 ktimetracker/4:5.0.1-3 (armhf)

and I've retried it a number of times but it's persistant. I don't see how this change could make it fail though.

Timo I triggered the ktimetracker retry with migration-reference/0 to see if it's broken with the released version. I would recommend using that in cases where we suspect things being already broken. Too many regular retries!
