Bug Description

This is a new version of snapd.

NOTE: the links below will become available shortly and this note will be removed when they are all available.

The changelog is available here https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/blob/2.55/packaging/ubuntu-16.04/changelog, the raw git changelog is available here: https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/commits/2.55 (note that the debian changelog is auto-generated from the merges of the git commits so there is usually no need to look at the raw git commits).

The snappy team released a new release that we want SRU into bionic+. The new process described in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SnapdUpdates was used and we have done integration-tests on the snappy images, autopkgtests on classic and unit tests.

GitHub Actions test runs can be found at https://github.com/snapcore/snapd/actions?query=branch%3Arelease%2F2.55

So I don't see 2.55.5 in kinetic. Is the intention to get this approved as an SRU and then forward-copied with binaries to kinetic?

Also, I'm a bit surprised that the 2.55.5 SRU uses this bug, which seems to only say '2.55' (and was already referenced by the 2.55.2 upload to jammy). I this correct?

Ok, I see 2.56 in kinetic now. So I guess this is a stable update meant only for older releases.

Also, per our old old agreement regarding SRUs of snapd to stable series, we wanted *every* distro-affecting change (packaging) to be documented and accounted by explicit manual testing when verifying the given release. Looking at the changelog, I see that there is a change to systemd unit restarts (for xenial I guess?). Please document this and be sure to have a manual verification that everything is restarted as expected for all the series.

I think we need to start putting more 'quality' into the SRUs for snapd. Can we get the bug updated re: 2.55.5? Since right now it's a generic one for 2.55.

Hello Ian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted snapd into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/2.55.5+22.04 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

I'll be doing an early release of the jammy SRU - we'll wait with the other series until it fully ages. We need the jammy one for the UC22 release, and we'll deal with any consequences if anything pops up.
