Networking Ubuntu to XP or a Mac impossible by default

Bug Description

The only way I found out how to do it was in a ubuntuforums.org
thread: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1815

Basically, if you get ubuntu to show up in the workgroup computers
(XP) by installing samba and smbfs, it pops up a user password
box that won't accept your Linux password as you'd think. YOu
have to do one of these things:
1) edit /etc/samba/smb.conf so that "encrypt passwords = no"
2) sudo smbpassword -a #USERNAME

But none of this is clear--it took an obscure post for me to
understand how to fix this issue since Warty.

I think the setup for this (using option 1 or option2), as well as
samba and smbfs installed by default, should be done during
install or on the 1st reboot after install.

This problem "Networking Ubuntu to XP or a Mac impossible by default" is due to 'security=user' in /etc/samba/smb.conf
so i think this bug is duplicate of #32067

If it's not the same case re-open the bug :)
