Since we've already move to a new PS3 Linux Distributor's Starter Kit (1.7 or 1.8), this should have been fixed. Jessi has the following [0] in Ubuntu-Cell forum:
Wireless (using WPA-PSK) is working fine for me with this kernel.
The build used is done by Dan Munckto in Jun 2008.

Should we close this one?

No, we can't just close this bug, because the kernel that Dan published is not in the archives at all, or at least the changes he made aren't. Bugs generally can't be closed until a fix is in the Ubuntu package archive.

I may be completely wrong on this, but from the builds of Ubuntu I have installed and tried, it seems the issue is not so much Ubuntu specifically, but the kboot loader incorrectly releasing/reporting hardware when kernel2 starts. I have managed to get wifi working definitively for XUbuntu, using the petitboot loader, however, if I reinstall kboot, wireless is immediately broken again. Reinstalling petitboot after that, instantly fixes the wireless issue. Thoughts?

I wrote a friendly tutorial here: http://psubuntu.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=458&p=1998#p1998

You'll simply notice, that using kboot, wifi will not work.

Nope, this is definitely broken in 8.10.

Network manager sees no access points, but gives me the option of enabling/disabling my wireless (so it know its there).

I installed wifi-radar and it was able to detect my access point, but wouldn't allow me to connect.

I'm using WEP 128-Hex for security and I'm running the latest version of kboot in the repos.

Please advise.
