Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Hi I have already installed hardy hard alpha 4 and when I start compiz performance goes really bad. I think it`s merit of new release (HH 8.04) because I had previously 7.04 and 7.10 and it was much much faster. My Ubuntu runs on Maxdata PRO 600 IW with intel 945 GM on board and core 2 duo 1.66.

with best regards
Bart

When you say that compiz has bad performance, could you please provide some info to back this up.

In particular, using bootchart while compiz is runnin, and posting the result of glxinfo, xvinfo and your Xorg log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log)

Thanks

Hi no problem
here comes the logs.

I have problems even I switch off almost all components (previously it was fast even all were on). The worst thing is when I start Fire Fox (3.0b3 - from repository).
For sure I working only on original repository list.

Hope this helps.

Do you have the ubuntu7 intel driver? If so, do you still have the problem if you go back to the ubuntu2 version?

I can confirm this bug. The system slows down greatly and becomes unusable when I run compiz. I switched back to Metacity for the moment as I don't have time to trace this bug.

Here are some logs:

Acer Extensa 5620 Laptop

Intel Core2 Duo Processor T5450 1.66 GHz
Mobile Intel GMA X3100 (uses the i945 driver)

islam@islam-laptop:~$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu hardy (development branch)"

Using the latest updates as of today.

islam@islam-laptop:~$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.24-11-generic (buildd@yellow) (gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu1)) #1 SMP Fri Feb 29 21:26:31 UTC 2008

Also, I have noticed that there are seemingly two packages with i945 driver installed:

islam@islam-laptop:~$ dpkg -s xserver-xorg-video-intel
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Architecture: amd64
Version: 2:2.2.1-1ubuntu2

islam@islam-laptop:~$ dpkg -s xserver-xorg-video-i810
Package: xserver-xorg-video-i810
Architecture: amd64
Version: 2:1.7.4-0ubuntu7

islam@islam-laptop:~$ dpkg -s compiz
Package: compiz
Architecture: all
Version: 1:0.7.0+git20080227-0ubuntu2

islam@islam-laptop:~$ dpkg -s compiz-core
Architecture: amd64
Version: 1:0.7.0+git20080227-0ubuntu2

Can you attach your xorg.conf? Also, make sure you are using the very latest intel driver on hardy and have restarted X after installing it. This sounds like bug 177492
