I don't know if this will work if you updated from other ubuntu versions. I was already in hardy.

unfortunately i can not because i reinstalled my system.
upgrade from 7.10 to 8.04 was really problematic and slow.
but clean install of 8.04 seems to work really stable and fast.

This happened when I tried to follow the instructions here
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Hardy_Installation_Guide
I had to do the manual install. Things went wrong and for some reason synaptic
uninstalled some packages, it even tried to uninstall the graphical frontend,
Mythubuntu. It appeared that at the end of the instructions (sudo
dpkg -i --force-overwrite xorg-driver-fglrx_8.471-0*.deb
fglrx-kernel-source_8.471-0*.deb fglrx-amdcccle_8.471-0*.deb) it couldn't find
a shared library libGL.so.1 even though I had it installed in /lib32 and
/lib64. I copied a link from one of those to the /lib folder and it appears to
be ok now.

I'm trying to get hardware acceleration enabled on my graphics card without
much success but at least fglrxinfo is showing the proprietary name of my
graphics card now.

When you say you want a copy of my log, how do you want it attached and where?

Howard

Thank you so much for asking me to upload that log. I looked through it and
saw how to add 3d support to my card with option "TexturedVideo" and it works.
I'm so happy!

I know this is off topic but to the person who has problems with ati drivers
then look at this.
"If fglrxinfo doesn't display the ATI name which I dont think it will (maybe
something else like mesa) go here
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide.
This is a good walkthrough on how to add to 8.04 but there will be one for
early versions.

If it does show Ati just try adding Option "TexturedVideo" under driver =
fglrx in your xorg.conf. If it doesn't work I recommend the link.

Made enormous difference. I can now display 1920x1080 with MythTv whereas
before it was very jerky.

Section "Device"
Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]"
Driver "fglrx"
Option "TexturedVideo"
EndSection"

Okay, sounds like the issue is fixed.

@Peter, in your case I notice the time on the apport crash report was pretty close to when the upgrade was done, so perhaps that was from prior to rebooting? Or else perhaps there was a lag in when the crash occurred and when apport noted it. In any case please keep an eye on it, and if you see the crashes again with the new kernel, please open a new bug report.
