Bug Description

When I'm away from my computer I really don't need it constantly pinging. However, if I remove the applet it loses all of my settings.

Could you add a Pause/resume option in the dropdown menu?

An added bonus would be automatically pausing when the screensaver is activated.

Thanks for a great little applet!

LM generates so little traffic that this option is not justified.

Little traffic, but it might be very annoying for someone trying to determine why the internet connection does not work with tcpdump - that happened to me twice.
Also, I use link-monitor to monitor hosts on our local private community network and my machine is a laptop, so when I am connected ouside of out network, it would be nice to be able to stop link-monitor since the hosts are unreachable.

Alternatively to a pause button (or rather a menu item in preferences or an option offered when right-clicked on the applet), the settings of link monitor could be saved when removed from a panel, but I do not know if it is possible.

Just read an interesting post about how screen updates of any kind cause small power usage vs. an idle screen:

I'm sure Link Monitor Applet causes a bit more power usage due to waking up the NIC. It'd be nice for laptops and netbooks to be able to Pause any application that does screen updates and/or wakes up hardware in order to save a bit power.

Thanks for the great applet!

Yes, a pause or on/off button would be helpful for those of us who move their laptops in and out of private networks. And Michael's comment regarding power consumption has a lot of merit as well.

Pause would be useful for people working with wireshark. I have about 10 hosts monitored with this great applet, and it's difficult to filter only some ICMP messages originating from link monitor and not coming from other applications or hosts. With pause filtering would be much easier.
