Bug Description

On the TravelMate P215-53 V1.10 by Acer when running Ubuntu, the trackpad is entirely non-functional and does not appear in the /proc/bus/input/devices list. A wired usb mouse works perfectly, but there does not seem to be a tweak that enables the trackpad to be seen by the kernel.

Could you try to add "i8042.reset i8042.nomux i8042.nopnp i8042.noloop" to the kernel boot options to check whether it makes any difference?

Hello, I added those options to the boot menu (via esc -> e -> adding it to
the end of the linux line in the boot config -> f10) and the trackpad is
still entirely unresponsive. The function key for enable/disable trackpad
did not make a difference. The device also doesn't appear in the xinput
devices list. Thank you for reaching out!

Per the dmesg output, your touchpad should connect via i8042 interface and seems detected.

Does the suspend/resume makes any difference?

If not, you can go back to BIOS menu and change the BIOS setting from "Basic mode" to "Advanced mode", then boot into Ubuntu to see if it's detected or not. Please also paste the dmesg output here for the Advance mode. Thanks.

The suspend/resume does not seem to make any difference, and I cannot see
the device listed in dmesg. The BIOS for this device doesn't appear to have
an advanced mode, but if it helps the device is only capable of UEFI
booting, so ubermix has been installed as UEFI.
Attached is the output of the dmesg command.

It's weird there's a mouse detected but not recognized as an input device.
Can you show me the result of the command `ls /sys/bus/acpi/devices/`? Since there's a PS2M(ps/2 touchpad) device and a TPD0 (i2c interface) device in the ACPI dsdt file which should represent the Touchpad. I need to know which one is recognized by ACPI and I can tell the touchpad is from Elantech or Synaptic. The we can dig further for what really happened. Thanks

Hello, I think the issue must have been Ubermix-specific it seems. Pop-OS,
which uses the same Ubuntu version, does not have any trackpad related
issues. If you would still like that command result I can get that to you,
I'll just have to re-flash Ubermix. Thank you for your quick replies and
help!
